Introduction

Fujita Masahisa is the Urban and Regional Professor of Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University. The paper about spatial agglomeration (Fujita, 1988) is the classical literature of modern economic geography. Prof. Fujita has greatly developed Thunen"s regional economy theory with Krugman et al.

This paper of Prof. Fujita, "Agglomeration and Growth with Sticky Innovations: on the possibility of skilled workers" cyclical migration", integrates the theory of economic geography and economic growth. By a two-region model of endogenous growth with sticky innovations, the paper explains that why "a small part of the globe, accounting for some 15% of the earth"s population, provides nearly all the world"s technology innovations"(Sachs, 2000). And the paper proves “steady-state growth path along which the cross-regional-migration of skilled workers occurs cyclically" (Fujita and Thisse, 2003). The integration of new economic geography and economic growth theory can model how knowledge is diffused in the spatial dimension, which greatly broke the traditional framework of the economic theory.
