Leila Fernández-Stembridge
Leila Fernández-Stembridge (Madrid, 1972) is Associate Professor of Chinese Economy at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). She is also Senior Consultant at InterChina Investment Consulting Co., Ltd.
Prof. Fernández-Stembridge holds a PhD in Economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), including two years of postgraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley and San Diego.
She has been Visiting Professor at the China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS, Shanghai); External Analyst and Researcher at the OECD in Paris; Research Associate at the Beijing National Economic Research Institute (NERI), China Reform Foundation (Beijing guomin jingji yanjiusuo); Visiting Scholar at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (Shanghai shehui kexueyuan) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing (Zhongguo shehui kexueyuan).
Her research explores mainly China’s WTO entry implications, rural-urban migration flows, labor markets, and macroeconomic trends.
Prof. Fernández-Stembridge has extensively published in international journals, academic books and the press and has become an essential reference on the Chinese economy in Spain. Her latest international publication includes (co-edited with Taciana Fisac) China Today: Economic Reforms, Social Cohesion and Collective Identities, Surrey: Routledge/Curzon (2003). Two books, one on China’s Economy (asked by a Spanish Publishing House) and another one on China’s State-Owned Enterprises Reforms (co-written with Juan Antonio Fernandez-CEIBS) are currently underway.
